Take a deep breath in … Then AHH … take a deep breath out! Let me let you in on a little secret and promise me you’ll tell everyone – I’m about to tell you the best medication that you can prescribe yourself and you don’t need to go to a doctor’s office for it either.
The medication is … ready… wait for it… The Magical Power of Breath. I can’t stress how important it is to take time every single day, whether its the first thing you do in the morning or the last thing you do before you go to bed. to simply sit with your self and just breathe. It only takes 5 minutes! If you have time to binge watch Netflix series then you have time to take 5 minutes out of the day and be there for yourself.
A lot of us have become professionals at running away from ourselves and what we’re feeling. We distract ourselves with keeping busy, or being on our phones, checking our Insta-feed every hour and the list goes on… The problem with this is that we keep building up the anxiety or worries that already exist inside of us. When we take time to breathe, we create a space for ourselves to check how we’re feeling. We are able to bring up any suppressed emotions to surface so they can transform into a healing light in our lives. Breathing is a source of life-force energy. I always tell my friends and family, when we remember to breathe we remember to live again. When we keep running away from ourselves it’s like we’re opening the doors for illness to manifest in our body.
All you have to do is find a quiet place, get comfortable and inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. As you inhale imagine something that makes you feel happy and calm, and as you exhale, any tension in your body will be released.
I used to be super anxious and stressed all the time, I still get anxious of course (My star sign is an Aries, we’re always on the go!) Anyways the stress manifested in my body with severe stomach pains and my hair became thinner and I just felt drained all the time. A lot of spiritual healers told me you have to do some breathing exercises or go to yoga classes and all that. In my head, I was just like, “That’s it?” – I was excepting some profound imaginative meditation exercises with all the colours and symbols, or some herbal teas, etc. All you are telling me to do is, “Breathe?”. So I went home, went on youtube and googled different breathing meditations. 10 minutes in, I felt a sense of clarity and I realised all of the problems I was worried about are so microscopic compared to how big the universe is. Breathing taught me that how a lot of us dwell in the past and are already living in the future, so much so that we forget to enjoy the present moment right here. My health has become better, I’m less spaced out and I don’t lose my house keys as much as I used to; all because breathing brings us back to our bodies. Breathing helps us connect to our hearts and awaken the inner peace that lies within. It gives us a sense of inner strength and boosts our self-esteem and self-worth. Not only does breathing supply oxygen to our cells but supplies oxygen to our soul.
All you have to do is find a quiet place, get comfortable and inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. As you inhale imagine something that makes you feel happy and calm, and as you exhale, any tension in your body will be released. So get out there and prescribe yourself with vital energy through the magical power of breath; keep it simple!
